Notes - <p>REFN: 562</p><p><p>[Tunink after Brian Tunninkg Info.FTW]</p></p><p><p>John Tunning arrived in the U.S. around 1875, 2 years after his brother</p></p><p><p>Bernard. In 1879, in Delaware Co unty, IA, both John and Bernard</p></p><p><p>petitioned for citizenship. On September 24, 1881, they received their</p></p><p><p>naturalization paper in Carroll County, IA.</p></p><p><p>John Barnard and John F. had settled in the Roselle area after movng to</p></p><p><p>the Carro ll area. According to the Roselle history book, when the town</p></p><p><p>was first forme d, the founders advertised their new settlement up arond</p></p><p><p>the Dubuque area, as a way to bring in new settlers. On August, 28,</p></p><p><p>1883, John married Maria Wil helmina Merse in Roselle. Witnesses to the</p></p><p><p>marriage were herman renze and M M einers. It was around this time that</p></p><p><p>John's name changed to Tunning.</p></p><p><p>Most of the children were born and baptized in Roselle until John bought</p></p><p><p>120 acres s outheast of Dedham for approx. $2,700 in early 1890.</p></p><p><p>About a month after Henry was born, John died of the grip. He is buried</p></p><p><p>in Templeton. Of the children , all but Ben and Henry are buried in</p></p><p><p>Carroll County. Ben and his wife Gertru de are buried in Humphrey, NE.</p></p><p><p>Henry is buried in ST. Joseph's cemetary n Co ncil bluffs, IA Henry was</p></p><p><p>working as a hired hand at the time of his death a nd Joseph's family had</p></p><p><p>just been released from quarentine from scarlet fever just before his</p></p><p><p>heath. After John's death, Wihlemina remarried to Heman Vosh age on July</p></p><p>14, 1896 at Dedham.</p>
