  • Notes
    • After he immigrated to the USA from Denmark and as a married adult, he changed his surname to AndersOn, from the original AndersEn. This record is primary and in Danish, "Jetsmark Parish Register, Hjorring, Denmark, Baptisms and Births, Book 9, 1852-1868, page 78 (online p. 79)," and it gives his birth name. It also gives the Danish name of his mother "Ane Marie Sorensdatter" aka "Anna Sorensen", which he names her in the Iowa State 1925 Census. This Census is one of the best Census' ever taken, gives the full names of both parents and mother's maiden, where the parents were married, and the birth places. It is a 2-page Census for each person....his birth mother died sometime in Denmark, before the 2nd marriage of Anders Christian Andersen his father to Maren Kirstine Nielsen. It is likely that Maren is the mother that he knew most of his life, and it is certain that his birth-mother died before he was age 10, when his father remarried. His father immigrated to the US with 2nd wife, Maren and this is why Jens puts on their stone "parents of J K Anderson", because Maren Kirstine Nielsen Sorensen was his step-mother and the mother he knew for most of his life.
